Why Privacy Matters to Us (And How We Actually Protect It)

Privacy & Trust: How We Protect Your Family's Images

Your family's photos deserve real protection. That's why we've built our entire operation around keeping student images safe and respecting the trust schools and families place in us.

About SchoolPictures.com

We're an independent, family-focused photography company. Everything we do starts with a simple question: "Is this the right thing for the families we serve?"

Our team is embedded in the communities we work with. From our photographers to our office staff, many of us have kids in the same schools where we take pictures. That matters. It means we're not making decisions based on profit margins or shareholder returns—we're making them based on what keeps families safe and respected.

We built this business to do one thing well: capture school memories with integrity. We're not trying to monetize your data, sell your information, or use your photos for anything beyond what you've agreed to. That's not our business model. That's our foundation.

What Happens to Your Child's Photo

When we photograph a student, that image exists for a specific purpose: to help families celebrate school moments.

Here's exactly what we do with those images:

  • We create secure proofs so families can review and choose what they want to purchase
  • We process orders and deliver the photos families have requested
  • We support school needs like yearbooks, ID cards, and official school records
  • We handle reprints and retakes when families request them

That's it. Those are the only reasons your child's photo exists in our system.

What We Absolutely Will Not Do

Some things aren't negotiable for us:

  • We will never sell your child's image or your family's information
  • We will never hand over photos to companies, marketers, or data brokers
  • We will never make student photos publicly browsable online
  • We will never use student images to develop, train, or improve artificial intelligence systems
  • We will never monetize images for any reason beyond providing the service you've requested

How We Keep Images Secure

Security isn't something we think about once a year. It's how we operate every single day.

Our systems are built with multiple layers of protection. Only our staff members and trusted service providers who actually need access to do their jobs can see student photos. We limit access based on what each person actually needs to do.

Our platform meets SOC 2 standards. In simple terms: an independent security firm has audited our systems and confirmed we meet strict standards for keeping data safe, available, and private. We don't just promise security—we get it verified by outside experts.

Following the Rules (FERPA & Privacy Laws)

Schools have legal obligations to protect student information. We take those obligations seriously.

We work as a partner to your school, not as an independent entity doing whatever we want with student records. Student photos are part of your child's educational record, and we treat them that way. We follow FERPA (the Federal Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act) and all applicable state and local privacy laws.

When a school works with us, we're extensions of their privacy practices—not separate operators with our own agenda.

How Long We Keep Images & What You Can Request

We keep student images as long as necessary to fulfill orders, handle reprints, support yearbook needs, and meet any school requirements. We don't hold onto images indefinitely.

If you want us to delete your child's photos after the ordering window closes, you can request that. We respect those requests and will delete images unless we're legally required to keep them for school or accounting purposes.

Questions about privacy? Questions about your child's images? Contact us directly—we'll explain exactly what we have, how it's being used, and what you can do about it.

Why This Matters

The school photography industry has changed. Some large companies treat student images as a commodity—something to extract value from through data sales, marketing uses, or AI training. That's not who we are.

We're independent. We're local. We answer to families and schools, not to distant investors looking for the next way to monetize data. When you choose SchoolPictures.com, you're choosing a company that sees student photos as something sacred—not as a product to exploit.

That's the difference. That's what we stand for.

Questions? We're Here

Our privacy practices are straightforward, but we know you might have questions. Ask them.

We're happy to walk through exactly how we handle images, answer your concerns, or explain anything in more detail. Privacy isn't something we hide behind—it's something we're proud to talk about.
